Perks of Buying a Factory Direct Mattress

Perks of Buying a Factory Direct Mattress

There are many benefits to purchasing a factory direct mattress from Texas Mattress Makers. We pride ourselves in offering a unique mattress selection experience unlike any other store in Houston, and due to our factory direct model, you can get your dream mattress for less money.

Our experts are here to answer your questions revolving around the benefits of buying a factory direct mattress.

What is factory direct?

What do we mean when we say the phrase “factory direct?” It’s quite simple –– the product is sold from the factory directly to the customer. Texas Mattress Makers follows this factory direct model. You may be thinking, how is this better than purchasing from a traditional mattress store? We’ll break it down for you!

At a typical mattress store, mattresses are produced by a separate manufacturer, shipped, stored, and then sold to the consumer. Meaning, there are many third-party vendors involved in the process that can jack up the prices and cause delays. This is not the case when you shop with Texas Mattress Makers. Here are all the perks of buying a mattress from us.

Why should I buy a factory direct mattress?

1. Lower prices

When you buy a factory direct mattress from Texas Mattress Makers, you only pay for the components used to make your mattress and the delivery fee (if you choose to have your mattress delivered). Here’s how.

Because of our factory direct model, we cut out the costs associated with product distribution, manufacturer to retailer markup, and huge marketing budgets. We minimize our operation costs by producing our products on-site at our Downtown Houston factory and selling them directly to the public. We pass these factory direct mattress savings onto our customers with our everyday low prices which are half the price of normal retail or less!

2. No storage fees

When other mattress manufacturers produce their products, their mattresses have to be stored somewhere before they can be shipped off to the customer. Who winds up paying for those shipping and storage fees? The customer. You

All of Texas Mattress Makers mattresses are made at our Downtown Houston factory with no third-party storage vendor, so there is no need for a storage fee. With our factory direct mattress savings, you pay less and sleep better. Plus, the mattress delivered to your home will be freshly produced within days of delivery versus sitting in a warehouse for weeks, months or even years sometimes.

3. We cut out the middleman

At Texas Mattress Makers, we are the manufacturer of our own products, meaning we are able to cut out the middleman. This allows us to produce and deliver our products more efficiently since we don’t have to wait for outside sources to do our job for us. Because there are no third-party manufacturers or storage companies, we are able to avoid major supply chain issues and delivery delays to get you your mattress faster. You’ll be sleeping well in no time.

4. Our factory warranty

Since we produce all of our own mattresses in-house, we are able to provide our customers with a factory mattress warranty. If you purchase a factory direct mattress from Texas Mattress Makers and are experiencing any loose threads, collapsed walls, dips in the mattress larger than two inches, and more, our experts can repair your mattress for you at no additional cost.

*Visible dips and sinking-related issues with your mattress caused by a defective box spring or bed frame that was supplied by another manufacturer are not covered. Mattresses with stains or damage due to liquids voids all warranties.

5. Transparency

For the average shopper, mattress components are not easy to differentiate in terms of quality and durability. Each of our mattress experts has made mattresses by hand in order to obtain in-depth knowledge of mattress components and design. Not only will our experts give out our best mattress shopping tips, but they will explain the benefits offered by each bed so you know how these factors come together to affect your sleep.

Our unique factory direct model as both retailer AND manufacturer allows us to find you a mattress that can give you the best quality sleep for years to come. We are involved in every detail leading up to your purchase from the selection process to delivery. Your sleep satisfaction is our top priority from start to finish.

That is the Texas Mattress Makers Difference.

Hot Sleeper vs Cold Sleeper: What Type of Sleeper Are You?

Hot Sleeper vs Cold Sleeper: What Type of Sleeper Are You?

Are you a hot sleeper and find yourself waking up in the middle of the night sweating? Or, are you a cold sleeper and constantly wake up trying to find more blankets to get warmer? Whether you are a hot or cold sleeper, quality of sleep is directly linked to your body temperature and whether you can maintain a quality core temperature during the night.

The Importance of Body Temperature and Sleep

As humans, we are constantly regulating our body temperature for different activities. According to this HuffPost article, “Falling and rising body temperature over the 24-hour day is an important contributor to the body’s sleep-wake cycle: dropping body temperature helps you fall asleep and stay asleep at night, and rising temperature stimulates alertness in the morning.”

Therefore, if you are a hot sleeper and cannot stay asleep because you are tossing and turning then you are going to wake up feeling groggy. Same goes if you are a cold sleeper and you are constantly waking up feeling like you are in an icebox. The good news is there are certain things you can do to regulate your body temperature.

Tips For Hot Sleepers

If you are one of those people who wake up sweating then there are certain things you can do in your environment to reduce your body temperature needed for sleep.

  1. Sleep with the room at a cool temperature. Many studies claim that it is ideal to sleep with your room temperature between 60-67 degrees. This might not be realistic (or economically feasible) if you live in a hot place like Houston, Texas but you should try to sleep with the A/C about 2 degrees lower than you normally would have it during the day.
  2. Control your bedroom’s temperature throughout the day to be cooler in preparation for the night. Try looking into blackout curtains or blinds to block sunlight throughout the day so that you do not have to work too hard at night to cool down your room before bed.
  3. Take a warm shower or bath before bed. That’s right! It might seem counterintuitive to take a warm or hot shower before you go to bed, but after you get out, your body will work to start cooling you down which can jumpstart your body’s cool temperature needed for quality sleep.

Tips for Cold Sleepers

There is so much information on how you can sleep cooler at night, but what about those of you that wake up shivering ?! If you are a cold sleeper then you can also do things to help elevate your temperature for better sleep.

  1. Wear socks. This might seem silly to wear socks in bed but it is common knowledge that if your feet are warm, that your body tends to feel warmer. So, invest in some cute and cuddly socks to wear to bed and if you get too warm you might find them in your sheets in the morning!
  2. Pajamas. Silk pajamas are great at helping your body regulate your internal body temperature. If you are cold it will help warm you and if you are warm it will help make you cooler! But…if you get extra cold then you may want to look at owning some flannel options.
  3. Cuddle up with the right blanket. Getting the right blanket for your beauty rest is important but there are a few things to consider. If you sleep alone or your partner is also a cold sleeper then consider a nice and fluffy down comforter. If you are the cold one sleeping next to a furnace, then consider a cotton option which can make you warm at night but is also breathable for your partner.

Want more tips? Check out our 8 Tips for a Cold Sleeper post!

Those are just some of the tips that might help you sleep better whether you are a hot sleeper or a cold sleeper. However, the answer might also be your mattress! It is important to consider the actual surface you are sleeping on when trying to sleep cooler or warmer at night.

The Right Mattress for Hot Sleepers

When you sleep, your body heat is transferred to your mattress. If you are a hot sleeper, your mattress should have breathable components so that your body heat doesn’t become trapped and create a furnace! Thinking about airflow, cooling technologies and products that help wick away body heat are imperative. Some of these to consider are individually wrapped coils, latex and more.

The Right Mattress for Cold Sleepers

People who sleep hot may think you are the lucky one if you sleep colder, but they do not wake up shivering and craving more blankets! When exploring ways to sleep warmer at night make sure you take your mattress into account. There are various components that retain heat, such as traditional memory foam or viscoelastic foam that can help you from reaching for more blankets multiple times a night.

Should You Rotate Your Mattress? The Answer Might Shock You.

Should You Rotate Your Mattress? The Answer Might Shock You.

Should you rotate your mattresses? The answer is simple: NO! While some mattress manufacturers may tell you that rotating your mattress is a good thing, this is a myth! The experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to tell you that rotating or flipping your mattress does not extend the life of your mattress — in fact, it can hurt it.

We know this goes against everything you may have been taught about mattresses, but we want to ensure that you can sleep comfortably on your mattress for years to come without flipping or rotating the mattress. You deserve the best and most honest advice from your mattress manufacturer and we are here to deliver that to you.

The mattress experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to help. Here are some reasons why our answer to “Should you rotate your mattresses?” is no.

An important thing to note is that these impressions are not the same as a mattress sagging (when the mattress collapses in the center and can no longer support your body properly). If you are having trouble distinguishing between the two, read our blog Mattress Body Impressions vs. A Sagging Mattresses.

1. You will lose your mattress’s natural mattress body impressions

When you purchase a new mattress, especially a quality one from Texas Mattress Makers, your mattress will begin to form to your body over time. This is what we like to call mattress body impressions — natural indentations that help to promote spinal alignment and provide the pressure relief needed for a great night’s sleep. It’s similar to breaking in a new pair of shoes: the stiff or firmer mattress will begin to soften and contour to your body as you sleep. This is a good thing and will ensure healthier sleep for years to come.

Is it okay to rotate your mattress?

We don’t recommend rotating a mattress that you have been sleeping on for a while — here’s why. First, if you decide to flip or rotate your mattress after the mattress body impressions have already settled in, your mattress will not feel as comfortable and you may begin to feel what we call bad mattress symptoms. If you share a bed with someone, you will be sleeping in someone else’s impression which can cause a lot of discomfort. The mattress impressions are made for your body, not anyone else’s.

Second, mattress makers tend to design modern beds from the bottom up, with the comfort layers placed only at the top. Flipping them means you’d be sleeping on the underside of the base layer rather than the top, comfort layer. The result? A less comfortable and less supportive mattress. Ouch.

What happens if you don’t flip your mattress?

Nothing at all. Your mattress does not need to be flipped to stay comfortable and supportive. In fact, the vast majority of mattresses being made in the industry today are manufactured with high-quality components that do need to be flipped and actually should not be flipped. This is because they have distinct layers of support and comfort — meaning the support layer is at the bottom and the comfort layers are on top. If you flip a mattress that is not designed to be flipped, you’ll be sleeping on a harder surface that wasn’t made to provide the same feeling once it’s flipped.

However, as the manufacturer we know not all individuals prefer a one-sided memory foam or pillow top mattress. This is where flippable mattresses can come in handy! Flippable mattresses are mattresses that are double-sided, providing equal comfort on both sides of the mattress. At Texas Mattress Makers, we aim to provide you with the best mattress for your unique needs. To learn more about the ins and outs of double-sided mattresses, watch our Snooze News episode then explore our selection of flippable mattresses today!

2. Rotating or flipping your mattress does not extend the life of the mattress

When it comes to tips on how to protect your mattress, we will tell you the truth. The reason other mattress manufacturers tell you to flip or rotate your mattress to “protect it” against “wear and tear” is because their mattresses can’t withstand the weight of your body long term.

A high-quality mattress should be able to support you in your preferred sleeping position for years. If you ever purchase a mattress that needs to be rotated to keep it comfortable…you’re not buying the right mattress.

With a quality, handmade mattress from Texas Mattress Makers, you do not need to flip or rotate your mattress to extend the life of your mattress. Our mattresses are built to last you a lifetime, can support your body and keep it comfortable for years and are not one-size-fits-all.

How to Find the Most Comfortable Mattress Type For You

How to Find the Most Comfortable Mattress Type For You

Many companies will try to market a mattress as the “most comfortable” mattress type without taking you into consideration. In truth, the best comfortable mattress is going to be completely unique to your sleep preferences and needs. For example, side sleepers generally want something that’s going to be a bit softer to relieve pressure in their shoulders and hips; whereas back sleepers typically prefer a medium mattress. But again, it’s all up to what feels comfortable to you.

In this article, the experts at Texas Mattress Makers are going to walk you through some aspects to consider when shopping for the most comfortable mattress type for you.

How do I find the perfect mattress for me?

There are several key factors that go into finding the most comfortable mattress type. Every mattress feels different to each individual, which is why we always recommend speaking to one of our sleep experts before buying your mattress, whether it’s online, over the phone, or in-store.

If your mattress doesn’t feel as comfortable at home as it did in the store, keep in mind that breaking in a new mattress takes around 30-60 days and will feel the most comfortable after it’s been broken in for a few weeks.

Here are some of the factors we use to determine what mattress will be the most comfortable for you:

1. Body type

We understand that your body type might not be something you want to discuss with someone when shopping for a mattress, but it’s an important point to consider. Here’s why.

Your body type determines how your weight will be distributed on the mattress. We are more concerned with where you’ll need extra support than how much you actually weigh. This information can help us determine the best mattress for your body type. From there, we can direct you to the level of firmness and support you’ll need to achieve your most comfortable night’s sleep.

2. Sleeping position

Before you ask, there truly is no healthiest sleeping position. As long as your neck and spine are aligned while you sleep, you can achieve the most restorative sleep. How you sleep plays an important role in the type of mattress you pick out.

  • Side sleeper: If you’re most comfortable on your side, you’ll need a supportive mattress that relieves pressure from your shoulders and hips.
  • Back sleeper: Is a firm mattress better for your back? The most comfortable mattress for back pain is one that relieves pressure from your lower back. Back sleepers tend to prefer a medium-firm to a firm mattress depending on the individual’s body type.
  • Combination sleeper: If you’re the type of sleeper who changes positions throughout the night, a hybrid mattress might be a good choice for you because it combines a supportive and comfort layer that can meet a variety of sleep needs.
  • Stomach sleeper: A firm mattress is a great option for those who sleep on their stomachs as it provides enough support to keep your stomach from sinking into the mattress too deep and contributing to low back pain.

Talk to one of our experts to figure out which mattress can meet most of your needs.

3. Mattress type

There are so many different mattress types to choose from. Though the most comfortable mattress type for you will depend on what type of material you prefer. Foam mattresses tend to contour to your body giving you that feeling of “sinking in” while a pillow top mattress is soft, yet features a support layer and a latex mattress is an eco-friendly option that’s great for allergies. Each mattress type can serve a different purpose to each sleeper, so do your research and talk with a mattress expert to see which type could benefit you best!

A few examples of mattress types we offer include:

4. Firmness and support level

Is it better to sleep on a hard or soft mattress? Well, it depends on your preference! Since mattress firmness is decided by how it feels for you, you get to be the one to answer this question. The best firmness level will keep your spine in alignment while also relieving pressure from your joints.

Mattress coil count is responsible for the amount of support a mattress offers. Higher coil counts create more support and may help you achieve more comfortable sleep. But if more support isn’t something you need, a mattress with a lower coil count may feel more comfortable for you.

5. Pressure relief

You can generally associate pressure relief with contouring. When a mattress contours to your body, your weight is being spread out across the mattress, helping to relieve any pressure you might typically feel around your joints. Though this “hugging” sensation isn’t loved by everyone — and that’s okay! That’s why taking into account the level of pressure relief you need is important when determining which type of mattress you find most comfortable.

6. Temperature control

No one enjoys waking up hot and sweaty or freezing cold, which is why temperature control is so important when looking for a mattress. Foam mattresses have less breathability and trap body heat, making them a great option for anyone who tends to wake up cold. The coil system in innerspring mattresses and hybrids allows for more airflow and may sleep a bit cooler.

If you sleep hot, we do offer a collection of cooling mattresses to help you achieve the most comfortable sleep. The Ice Blue Topper with cooling technology that is featured in these mattresses can also be added onto select mattresses as well.

The best comfortable mattress for you is at Texas Mattress Makers

The most comfortable mattress type will be completely unique to your preferences and sleep needs. This is why we never recommend a mattress without first understanding you. If you’re looking for the best comfortable mattress, come to Texas Mattress Makers. Our sleep experts will get to know you and assist you in finding the right mattress that will last you a lifetime.

Hybrid Mattress vs. Memory Foam: Which is Better for You?

Hybrid Mattress vs. Memory Foam: Which is Better for You?

If you’re trying to figure out what mattress type you prefer between a hybrid mattress vs memory foam, the experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to explain the pros, cons, and uses of each mattress.

Both mattress types serve different purposes. When you’re shopping for your next mattress, you need to take your specific needs into consideration. Though the internet may tell you that one type of mattress is the best, it may not be suitable for your unique sleep needs!

Remember, at the end of the day, you need a product that will give you the best night’s sleep possible, so do your research! If you’re deciding between a hybrid mattress vs memory foam mattress, this guide may help you decide what type would be best for you.

What is the difference between memory foam and a hybrid mattress?

Memory foam and hybrid mattresses are some of the most popular types of mattresses in the industry, so what makes them different?

The biggest difference between a hybrid mattress vs memory foam is coils –– hybrid mattresses have coils, memory foam mattresses don’t. Hybrid mattresses at Texas Mattress Makers are made with an individually wrapped coil component as the support layer whereas memory foam mattresses are made up of purely foam components. Both mattresses have their own set of pros and cons.

Hybrid mattresses

When customers ask us, “What is a hybrid mattress?” We answer with “the best of both worlds.” What do we mean by that? Because of how they’re made, hybrid mattresses are able to meet different kinds of sleeping needs and preferences. In fact, Texas Mattress Makers sells more hybrid mattresses than any other type of mattress in our showrooms. Here’s why.

What is a hybrid mattress made of?

Hybrid mattresses are “hybrids” of two main mattress components — the support layer (the base of the mattress) and the comfort layer (the mattress top).

We use different types of individually wrapped coil components to make up the supportive layer in our hybrid mattresses. In fact, we are one of the few mattress manufacturers and retailers that use the Quantum coil component, an individually wrapped micro-coil that is the top supportive coil in the industry.

The comfort layer of the hybrid mattress is typically made up of either memory foam, foam alternatives, or 100% Talalay latex components –– all aim to provide a comfortable sleeping surface with pressure point relief as you sleep.

Think a hybrid mattress could be right for you? Here are the pros and cons of a hybrid mattress to keep into consideration.

Pros of a hybrid mattress

  • Can suit any sleeper’s needs: Because hybrid mattresses can feature different types of comfort and support layers, you’re bound to find a combination that suits all of your sleep needs.
  • Suitable for any sleep position: Side, back, shoulder, stomach…whichever way you choose to snooze, a hybrid mattress will help keep you supported and comfortable with many different options to cater to your personal preferences.
  • Budget-friendly: With a variety of price points available, you can find a hybrid mattress that fits your budget without sacrificing quality.
  • Promotes motion isolation: Partners can sleep comfortably without disturbing one another when they move.
  • Cooler sleep surface: An individually wrapped coil base promotes air circulation for better temperature regulation as you sleep.

Cons of a hybrid mattress

Typically, hybrid mattresses are a bit pricier in the traditional mattress market. That’s not the case at Texas Mattress Makers. Because we hand make all of our mattresses in our Houston-based factory, we can sell you the highest quality product for our low, factory-direct prices. You won’t have to sacrifice quality or comfort.

With a wide range of hybrid mattresses to choose from, it can be easy to become overwhelmed while searching. With our experts at your side, we can help you narrow down your choices for the best hybrid mattress for your needs.

Memory foam mattresses

As they are arguably the most well-known mattress type, there are many options for memory foam mattresses on the market. At Texas Mattress Makers, we carry a wide range of all-foam mattresses –– including 100% memory foam mattresses* –– for any budget and preference made with the highest quality materials sourced from the United States.

What is a memory foam mattress made of?

Traditional memory foam is a man-made, “closed cell” polyurethane foam that is viscoelastic, meaning it responds to pressure in a way that isolates motion and provides natural support to your body with a soft feel. There are other types of memory foam mattresses that may suit your specific needs.  Here are some of the specialty foams that we carry at Texas Mattress Makers, in addition to our traditional memory foam:

  • Serene foam: Serene foam is a newer, luxurious, and more advanced version of polyurethane foam made up of billions of microscopic air capsules that help with temperature regulation throughout the mattress for a cooler sleep.
  • High-density foam: A firmer, more dense foam component used in the base of our 100% memory foam mattresses for those who want a firmer feel.
  • High-resilience foam: High-resilience foam (HR foam) is a specialty foam that mimics latex due to its lighter feel. HR foam allows pressure point relief without the cradling effect of traditional memory foam and features an open cell structure to allow airflow so you can sleep cooler.
  • Lumbar support foam: Want a soft feel but need support for your lower back? Lumbar support foam features a new technology that uses specially-engineered, high-resilience, three-zoned foam to provide extra back support.

Before purchasing a memory foam mattress, take our expert pros and cons into consideration.

Pros of a memory foam mattress

  • Ideal for most sleep positions: A memory foam mattress is best suited for back, combination, and side sleepers due to its cradling stability, pressure relieving properties, and the ability to give proper spinal alignment as you sleep.
  • Allergy-friendly: If you struggle with allergies, foam mattresses are naturally allergen-resistant with hypoallergenic options available.
  • Minimal motion transfer: Memory foam promotes motion isolation so partners can sleep comfortably without disturbing one another when they move, no matter who tosses and turns.
  • Affordable: With a variety of price points available, you can find a memory foam mattress that fits your budget without sacrificing quality.

Cons of a memory foam mattress

  • Not ideal for hot sleepers: Some individuals tend to have trouble staying cool as they sleep because their memory foam mattress doesn’t allow for temperature regulation. Memory foam has a tendency to trap heat into the mattress which can result in a sweaty and uncomfortable night’s sleep.
  • Not ideal for all sleeping positions: Although memory foam can work for most sleeping positions, it may not give enough support to those who sleep on their stomachs.  People who are combination sleepers as well might find that they do not like switching positions because of the cradling effect of memory foam and the lack of buoyancy in the component.
  • Sinking sensation: Though the sinking sensation can help provide pressure relief, some sleepers dislike how memory foam cradles the body. Luckily, there are other types of foam that can help with this issue, like high-resilience foam.

Texas Mattress Makers has the Best Hybrid and Memory Foam Mattresses Around

To answer our question, which mattress type is better for you, the answer is pretty straightforward. It’s what will suit your needs best. No matter if you’re comparing a hybrid mattress vs memory foam, your personal preference matters when you are searching for the perfect mattress. Factors including your body type, weight, preferred sleep position, and preferred comfort level are all important pieces to choosing the best mattress for the best night’s sleep. Both mattresses have their purposes, pros, and cons, but what matters is what you’re looking for in a mattress.

Whether you’re looking for a hybrid mattress vs memory foam mattress, you can shop by either comfort level, mattress type, mattress size, or budget, or come and visit any of our convenient Houston-area locations today!

How to Find the Best Mattress for Hip Pain

How to Find the Best Mattress for Hip Pain

Some mattress companies like to proclaim that they sell the best mattress for hip pain that money can buy. However, these mattress companies tend to resort to a one-size-fits-all solution that won’t work for every customer struggling with hip pain. At Texas Mattress Makers, we know that every sleeper needs a mattress that fits their specific needs. What helps relieve hip pain for one person may not work for you.

The truth is, if a bad mattress causes body pain, it could be that you’re not sleeping on the right mattress for your body. If a mattress is too soft for your individual body type, or too firm that it is causing too much pressure on your hip joints, this can lead to pain in your hips while getting out of bed that can last throughout the day. The best mattress for hip pain is a mattress that suits your individual sleep needs for a more comfortable night’s sleep.

How to find the best mattress for hip pain for you: Debunking mattress myths

The experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to debunk some popular statements other mattress retailers will tell you about finding the best mattress for hip pain.

Myth 1: One type of mattress is best for hip pain

If you search “best mattress for hip pain“ on the internet, you’re going to find an overwhelming amount of results. Lots of sleepers just like you are looking for answers to their questions. Is a firm or soft mattress better for hip pain? Should I sleep on my back if I have hip pain? Is a memory foam or coil component better?

Don’t worry –– the answer is quite simple. The best mattress for hip pain is a mattress that is going to make you the most comfortable as you sleep and give you the best support and pressure point relief. The goal is that you choose a mattress with the right balance of comfort and support to achieve a neutral spine position as you sleep, regardless of your preferred sleeping position. There are many recommendations for certain mattress types for different sleepers –– however, regardless of whether you prefer a memory foam or an innerspring mattress, the right mattress for you depends on what you need to get the best night’s sleep yet. Luckily, the team at Texas Mattress Makers can help you figure that out whether you ask us online via chat or email, or if you come into one of our convenient Houston locations.  Our goal is to find you the right mattress and educate you as to why certain components might be better than others when it comes to your perfect mattress.

Myth 2: Only one particular mattress is the best solution for anyone with hip pain

As we have mentioned time and time again, no mattress is one-size-fits-all. As an individual, you have a unique set of sleep needs which makes finding a mattress that ticks off all of your boxes extremely important.

The following factors are key to finding what type of mattress may be best suited for you:

  • Body type: Choosing a mattress type for your body is one of the most helpful tactics we use to help customers find the perfect mattress. Your body type can help us determine how your body will interact with certain mattresses. This can lead us to the types of materials that may support you best, your preferred firmness level (soft, medium, or hard), and your preferred sleep position. All of these elements factor into providing you with a personalized mattress choice.

  • Body weight: In the mattress industry, we care more about where you carry your weight on your body as opposed to how much you weigh. If you carry more weight in your shoulders and chest, you will have different support needs than someone who carries more body weight in their midsection and hips! Especially when you are someone that deals with hip pain, knowing where your main pressure points are and how your weight is placed will help us choose the perfect mattress for you.

  • Sleep position: Side, back, stomach, combination…we all have a preferred sleeping position. The position that you choose to sleep in determines what areas of your body will have the most contact with the mattress. These are the areas that will feel the most pressure through the night. As long as you have a mattress with the right amount of support and comfort for your body, you can toss and turn in any sleep position as you please.

  • Comfort preference: Comfort is key to managing hip pain as you sleep. Depending on what your preferences are, we will help you find a mattress that will keep you comfortable while alleviating your hip pain through the night. Our vast selection of handmade mattresses offers a wide range of firmness options from ultra-soft to ultra-firm so you are likely to find a comfort level that fits your needs.

Not sure what your preferences are? Take our Sleep Profile quiz to see what type of mattress may suit you best! Once you have your results, come visit us in our showroom to try it out in person!

Texas Mattress Makers can help you find the best mattress for hip pain for your specific needs

If you’re searching for a mattress to help you deal with hip pain, don’t let bed-in-the-box brands or large mattress retailers sell you a “solution.” The solution to resolving hip pain as you sleep is to find a mattress that will suit all of your needs for years to come. As long as you are comfortable and supported by the right mattress, you will feel well-rested and refreshed every morning.

The best way to find that mattress is to visit any of our Texas Mattress Makers showrooms. Our experts will guide you through the mattress trying and buying experience so you can make the most informed decision.

When you come to any of our showrooms, the mattresses on our showroom floor are already broken in for you to try. Why? This gives the customer the most realistic idea of how that mattress will feel after they’ve “broken in” or slept on that mattress for an extended period of time. No other mattress retailer does this.

The Best Mattress For Back Sleepers

The Best Mattress For Back Sleepers

Looking for the best mattress for back sleepers? Research indicates that the back is one of the best sleeping positions because it provides the best weight distribution across the body. When you sleep on your back, the two main pressure points that will be in contact with the mattress are the back of your shoulders and the back of your hips. Both of these areas contain very wide bones that need to be supported.

Some back sleepers are susceptible to lower back pain if they’re sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress that pushes the small of your back up. So, how do you go about finding the right mattress as a back sleeper?

The mattress experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to answer some questions regarding what is the best mattress for back sleepers including our top picks for different scenarios.

Sleeping on your back: Debunking mattress myths

A common mattress myth is that firmness automatically equals support –– this is not always the case. One mattress firmness level will not serve every back sleeper equally. For example, if you are a heavier individual, finding a mattress with good edge support –– the amount of resistance around the mattress edges –– will be beneficial on top of the firmness level to ensure comfort for years to come. Or, if you are male and carry more of your weight in your shoulder area then you may need a plusher, softer feel with a good support system to allow pressure point relief.  Just because one website says a medium-firm mattress is best, this does not make it true. Knowing how to choose mattress firmness that works best for you will make a world of a difference.

The truth is, what may be best for you will be different from other sleepers. Each person has their own set of unique sleep needs, even back sleepers. So when you’re searching for the best mattress for back sleepers, think of how you prefer your mattress to feel and what areas of your body need support.

What mattress firmness is best for back sleepers?

Customers who struggle with back pain often ask the question, “Is firm or soft better for back sleepers?” The answer: it’s up to you. At the end of the day, you need a mattress with the proper support system to keep your spine aligned while you sleep. The comfort level is up to your preference.

Best mattress for back sleepers: Our expert picks

Before we dive into some of our mattress recommendations, it’s important to note that not every mattress is one-size-fits-all. The following mattresses may be beneficial for back sleepers, but at the end of the day, finding a mattress that is best suited for you and your needs will guarantee a good night’s sleep. Factors including your body weight and sleep habits will determine what mattress would be best suited for you.

If you visit our showroom, our experts will be able to find a mattress that fits your preferred comfort level, firmness, and has the right amount of support for your spine. Not sure what could suit you? Take our Sleep Profile quiz and find out!

Best mattress for back sleepers with lower back pain

1. Comfort Level: Firm

A firm mattress may help alleviate lower back pain by distributing your body weight more evenly across the mattress so that your back isn’t curving as much while you sleep. We would recommend our Cannes Firm Select Mattress or the Barcelona Hybrid Select Mattress as they both feature supportive components to help alleviate back pain as you snooze. For example, The Barcelona in particular has a specialty foam in the comfort layer that offers optimal lumbar support by contouring to your spine.

2. Comfort Level: Medium

For those who like a balance of comfort and support, the Cannes Plush Select Mattress is a very supportive hybrid mattress with individually wrapped coils to keep your spine aligned and 4″ of plush, luxury comfort in the top layer.

3. Comfort Level: Soft

A soft mattress can be beneficial for helping your muscles to relax so they aren’t working as hard while you sleep. The Bel Air Graphite Deluxe Mattress is an ultra-soft mattress that provides a weightless feel with healthy support for your back.

Purchasing an adjustable bed frame can help angle your back and/or legs to reduce pressure on your spine. Our adjustable bed frames work with most standard mattress sizes but have limited availability. If you’re interested, reach out to our experts!

Best mattress for hot sleepers

It is suggested that hot sleepers should sleep on their back or their side to help with airflow during the night. If you still find yourself waking up from feeling too warm, our pick for the best mattress for hot sleepers is the Oslo Plush Mattress. The Oslo Plush mattress is made with three inches of latex that features an open, rubber cell structure that allows your body heat to escape, which helps you to sleep cooler.

Best mattress for heavy weight individuals

It is suggested that heavier-weight individuals should check out our Quantum Coil which is exclusively found at Texas Mattress Makers. This is a micro-coil that offers superior, durable and long-lasting support in all different feels depending on your comfort preference.

Find your best mattress for back sleepers at Texas Mattress Makers

The best mattress for back sleepers is not a one-size-fits-all situation. If you’re a back sleeper, what you need to get the best night’s rest possible is completely unique to you.

Though we can give our expert recommendations, we encourage customers to come into our showroom and try out our mattresses in-store. Tips for How to Test a Mattress in the Store

Tips for How to Test a Mattress in the Store

In order to get the best mattress, you need to know how to test a mattress in the store. After all, you’re going to spend A LOT of time (we’re talking like 33 years of your life) in your bed. You want it to be comfortable and supportive while still giving you the amount of sink you prefer. Thankfully, testing out mattresses is simple –– all you have to do is lay on it!

In this article, the mattress experts at Texas Mattress Makers walk you through how to test out a mattress in-store and give you five things to keep in mind when shopping.

How do you test a mattress in a store?

The best way to test out a mattress? Lay on it! To get an accurate idea of the comfort level, experts suggest laying down in your normal sleeping position for at least 15 minutes. It also helps if you’re wearing comfortable clothes when you test out a mattress. If you’ll be sleeping with a partner, have them come too!

Pay special attention to how the bed contours to your body shape. Is it supporting everything that needs to be supported? Do you feel your partner’s movements? Are any of your limbs going numb? Does anything hurt? Pay special attention to your neck, shoulders, and hips as these are where pressure points are most likely to occur. These are common questions to ask yourself when trying out mattresses.

5 things to think about when testing out a mattress

What do I need to know when buying a mattress? Luckily, there isn’t too much to remember when shopping for a mattress. Here are five things to keep in mind when trying mattresses:

1. Think about your sleeping position

Your sleep position is going to tell you a lot about which mattress to buy. It will affect the level of firmness, support, and material. If you’re a side sleeper, you’ll want to try out a softer, more supportive mattress with a thicker comfort layer.

Are you a back sleeper? Ask about a medium-firm mattress or a firm mattress that will provide a  good amount of support for the spine.

Our experts will help you find the right mattress style for any comfort and sleeping position combination including the best type of mattress for stomach sleepers.

2. How much do you weigh?

You don’t have to tell anyone the number, but you do need to keep it in mind when shopping for a new mattress. Certain firmness levels are better suited for different weights. For example, a  softer mattress can provide the right amount of comfort and support for those on the lighter side. For heavier set individuals, you’ll find the most comfort with a mattress that has a firmer support layer. A higher coil count will provide better support while the comfort layer can still provide that plush feel.

If you’re unsure which type of mattress is best for you, ask one of the experts in the store. They will be more than happy to assist you.

3. What’s your firmness preference?

Generally speaking, there are three main types of mattress firmness — soft, medium, and firm— with everything in between. With all those options, you might find yourself wondering how to choose between a firm vs. soft mattress. The right firmness type depends on your sleeping position, weight, body type, and preference. Whether or not you think you know what you want, we highly recommend heading into one of our mattress stores to test out your favorites since a feel selection is a preference and ultimately subjective and can change person to person. You might find that what you thought you wanted actually isn’t comfortable at all.

If you get home to find your new mattress is too firm, it may just need some time to break in. If it’s still too firm after 30-90 days, give us a call! Texas Mattress Makers offers a 90 night trial period from your original delivery or pick-up date. To get more details on our break-in period, check out our refund policy.

4. How much support do you need?

Although the terms are often used in place of one another, mattress firmness is not the same thing as mattress support.

Mattress support is relative to the structure of the bed itself rather than a preference of firmness. It lets you know how well your weight will be distributed so that your spine can maintain a neutral position. Without good support, your mattress can cause muscle aches, back, shoulder, or hip pain, stiffness, and lack of sleep. This is especially true if you have any sort of existing injuries or joint pain.

5. Ask a mattress expert at one of our Houston locations

Buying a mattress is one of the most important purchases you’ll make. Your mattress affects your sleep quality and your sleep quality affects your health, mood, energy, and so much more. This is why we always recommend talking to the people that work in our stores.

Our experts can help direct you to mattress selections that meet the comfort level you’re looking for and answer any questions you might have. We are ready to help you find the perfect mattress!

Choosing a Twin Mattress in Houston

Choosing a Twin Mattress in Houston

Looking for a twin mattress in Houston? Twin mattresses are the smallest standard mattress sizes available. They measure 38” (wide) x 75” (long). Twin mattresses, though smaller than most traditional mattresses, can meet a variety of needs. Want a less expensive mattress for your guest room? Don’t want to spend a ton of money on a quality mattress that your child or teen might grow out of? Then a twin mattress may be just what you need.

However, most consumers today turn to “bed-in-a-box” retailers to buy a cheap twin mattress. In our experience, a bed-in-the-box is not the answer to your mattress needs. Check out our article What is a bed in a box? to see how these pre-packaged mattresses can cause you to spend more money. If you’re concerned about budget, Texas Mattress Makers has many affordable and luxury twin mattresses to choose from either in store or online.

A twin mattress can fit in multiple spaces while being a money-conscious choice for short-term needs. They can also be good mattresses for college dorms, hospital beds or spaces that are smaller in size.  Whether you’d prefer an innerspring, hybrid or a memory foam mattress, Texas Mattress Makers carries a wide variety of twin mattresses so that you can find the perfect comfort level and size suitable for your needs.

How much should a twin mattress cost?

Typically, a good starting price point for a twin mattress is around $500, though we sell mattresses at a wide range of prices! According to the Sleep Foundation, the average price for a twin-size mattress is:

  • Budget: $400
    • Price range: $250-$1,000
  • Mid-range: $600
    • Price range: $500-$1,500
  • Luxury: $1,300
    • Price range: $1,200-$3,000+

At Texas Mattress Makers, we make sure that the materials and components used in the mattress construction is truly the largest cost factor. The price of the mattress will vary depending on the type of material used in the mattress’s construction, which in turn impacts the support and comfort of the mattress.

When you purchase a mattress from Texas Mattress Makers, you’re not paying for a brand name or extra storage fees –– you’re paying for the mattress and its components. That’s it! Because our mattresses are made right in our factory in Downtown Houston with materials sourced from the U.S., we can provide you with the highest quality mattress for a fair price.

Our expert picks for the best twin mattresses in Houston

Our mattress experts at Texas Mattress Makers are here to give their picks for the best twin mattress in Houston that we offer in-store and online:

  • Bellevue Euro Top Mattress: The open coil support unit with a Euro top comfort layer provides a soft, durable mattress that keeps your children/teens comfortable and supported as they grow.
  • Berlin Mattress: The perfect mattress for dorms, guest bedrooms, and kids’ rooms. The isolated coils provide optimal support for the sleeper by molding to the body as they sleep.
  • Dublin Deluxe Mattress: The large coils in this medium-firm mattress provide lumbar support ideal for back and stomach sleepers who are looking for great value in an everyday mattress.
  • Santa Barbara Deluxe Mattress: Our most popular mattress provides personalized support for all sleeping positions using Active Support Technology, stays cool all night long, and incorporates additional, highly resilient foam comfort layers for a medium feel.
  • Nice Plush Mattress: The high-coil count offers softness, support, and pressure relief for a restful night’s sleep. Supports all sleeping positions.

For more information on how to find the best twin mattress for you and your specific needs, visit our mattress buying guide. A twin mattress is the smallest standard size, so if you are buying a mattress for a tall teen or a taller child, you might want to consider a Twin XL mattress which is 38” x 80” so a bit longer. If you are an adult or buying a mattress that will be shared by a couple, or if you are currently finding a twin mattress is feeling a little too cramped, consider sizing up with a Queen mattress in Houston for extended sleeping space.
